The rise of far-right extremism across the world.
A breakdown into the countries that are dealing with far-right politicians.
In recent times, a few countries have headed back to their dark past with a rise of far-right politicians or governments. These countries are; France, Italy, Germany, England and the United States of America. Here’s an overview into how these countries are dealing with these politicians or how these governments are affecting these countries.
France
Marie Le Penn is one of France’s most controversial politicians. Le Penn supports Vladmir Putin and is in full support of his policies. She has also voiced her opposition against globalisation and multiculturalism. These opinions prove how she is a politician that could appeal to some voters for being patriotic but could have ill-intentions as she has full backing of Putin’s policies. Currently, her party has an approval rating of 36.1% which could pose a threat to Macron.
Italy
In October 2022, Italy elected their first female Prime Minster who has concrete links to fascism. Her party - Brothers of Italy - are well-known for being vocal supporters of Benito Mussolini. Her polices have included; stringency on same-sex couples, no allowances on mass migration and has claimed that Islamist violence is within Italy. In an interview in 1996, she claimed that ‘Mussolini was a good politician’. To prove her fascist roots, her party endorses Mussolini’s beliefs with her party having the symbols of Mussolini’s grave tomb. This has proven how her party believes in a far-right ideology.
Germany
Alice Weidel’s party has recently been in the news for being an extremist party which believes in far-right policies. Her policies are; banning the hijab, sharpening the border control and shunning Germany’s participation in the Euro. She is known to be anti-migrant and believes in a Germany that isn’t compatible with Muslim and Islamist views. This dangerous rhetoric proves how she is believing in idealist politics not in politics that can make difference.
England.
Nigel Farage is currently standing as the leader for Reform UK. In an interview, he called Obama; ‘a loathsome creature’ and has said racist comments. For Reform UK, he is consistently defending his party which has proven to be racist, homophobic and sexist. This is consistently shown in the media yet he has an approval rating of 38%.
The United States of America
This is man is known to many as being controversial and racist. Whilst he was in power, he called Mexican immigrants criminals and rapists, he called the SARS-CoV-2 - the coronavirus - ‘ the kung-flu virus’ and is facing a collection of allegations for sexual assault. These proves how he is unfit to be a president again yet he is allowed to campaign against Joe Biden.
